MICROBIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

Frequently Asked Questions

It evaluates microbial contamination in controlled environments like cleanrooms and pharmaceutical manufacturing areas.

Air, surface, personnel, equipment, and cleanroom environment.

It ensures aseptic manufacturing conditions, equipment, PPE and surfaces to meet compliance with GMP requirements and product quality control.

Pharmaceutical plants, biotechnology labs, hospitals, cleanrooms, and medical device manufacturing units.

Monitoring schedules are determined based on risk assessment, GMP guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Viable air monitoring is carried out using two methods: active air sampling and passive air sampling.

In active air sampling, an air sampler draws a predetermined volume of air through a perforated sampling head, which causes suspended microorganisms of air to come into contact with a growth medium plate, which is then incubated to obtain quantitative result of viable microorganisms in CFU per m3 of air.

In passive air sampling, petri dishes containing a culture medium (settle plates) are opened and exposed to the environment for a predetermined period of time.

There are two primary sampling techniques: contact plates for flat surfaces and swab testing for irregular areas.

It depends on the type of industry or utility. Generally, the surfaces are those which come in contact with outside air, outside material, and personnel movement.
