The story behind :
Around 200 years ago, there was a severe drought in this region. To pray for rain, people of Bhoi community created an idol of Meghraja from the soil of Narmada river and worshiped it the whole night waiting for rain to pour as blessings. But there were no signs of rain. Furious with distress, they decided to destroy the idol, and miraculously it started raining. Since that day, this day is celebrated as the Meghraja Visarjan festival every year by the Bhoi community.
200 વર્ષ પહેલાં આ પ્રદેશમાં અતિ દુષ્કાળ હતો. તેથી ભગવાન ઇન્દ્રની પ્રશંસા કરવા માટે, ભોઇ સમાજના વંશજોએ નર્મદા નદીની માટીમાંથી મેઘરાજાની મૂર્તિ બનાવી અને આખી રાત તેની પૂજા–અર્ચના કરી. પણ વરસાદ ન આવ્યો. આને કારણે તેઓએ મેઘરાજા મૂર્તિ વિરુદ્ધ ઉગ્ર ચેતવણી આપી હતી કે જો આગલી સવારે વરસાદ નહીં આવે તો તેઓ મેઘરાજાની મૂર્તિનો નાશ કરશે. આ સાંભળીને ચમત્કારની જેમ બીજા દિવસે સવારે વાતાવરણ બદલાઈ ગયું અને વરસાદ ચાલુ થયો. તે દિવસ પછી ભોઇ સમાજ દર વર્ષે આ ઉત્સવ ઉજવે છે.
Every year during Shravan month of Hindu Calendar, people from Bhoi community create idol of Meghraja from soil of Narmada river and worship it for 25 days. People make their children embrace the idol with a belief that God Meghraja’s blessings will keep their children healthy and protect them from diseases.
પ્રતિ વર્ષ શ્રાવણ માસના પ્રારંભથી મૂર્તિને ભરૂચના ભોઈવાડમાં બિરાજમાન કરવામાં આવે છે જ્યાં દર્શન માટે નાના બાળકોને મેઘરાજાની પ્રતિમા સાથે ભેટાવવાથી બાળકો નિરોગી રહેતા હોવાની માન્યતા છે. સાતમ થી દસમ સુધી ભાતીગળ મેળો નામે મેઘમેળો યોજાય છે.
નોમ ના દિવસે છડી ઉત્સવ યોજાય છે જે પણ એક આગવી શૈલેનું ઉત્સવ છે. દસમના દિવસે મેઘરાજાની મૂર્તિનું વિસર્જન કરવામાં આવે છે.
